🛠 Materials You’ll Need
Ekena Millwork faux beam (size: 5 ½" W x 7 ½" H x 192" L)
Mounting blocks (wood pieces cut to fit inside the beam)
Screws + drill
Stud finder
Measuring tape + level
Optional: construction adhesive (for permanent installs), touch‑up paint/caulk
📏 Step 1: Plan Your Layout
Decide how many beams you’ll use and where they’ll run (parallel or crossing).
Mark ceiling joists with a stud finder—these will anchor your mounting blocks.
Measure the room length to ensure the beam fits or plan to cut it down.
✂️ Step 2: Prep the Beam
If needed, cut the beam to size with a fine‑tooth saw.
Touch up cut ends with matching stain or paint for a seamless look.
🔨 Step 3: Install Mounting Blocks
Cut wood blocks slightly smaller than the inside width of the beam.
Screw blocks directly into ceiling joists at intervals (every 3–4 feet).
These act as “anchors” for the hollow beam to slide over.
🧲 Step 4: Attach the Beam
Lift the faux beam and slide it over the mounting blocks.
Secure by screwing through the sides of the beam into the blocks.
For a renter‑friendly option: use fewer screws and patch holes later, or rely on snug fit + removable adhesive strips.
🕒 Time & Cost
Time: 2–3 hours for one beam.
Cost: Around $200–$250 per beam (depending on finish).
Effort: Beginner‑friendly with basic tools.
Enjoy easy-to-handle DIY with the lightweight durability of polyurethane and cozy heritage vibes when done!
