DIY Dream Prayer Closet - What is it biblically? +Modern Essentials!

The Prayer Closet items shown in this design are all listed near the bottom.

What is a prayer closet?

A prayer closet is a private, quiet place where a person goes to meet God in solitude, intimacy, and to build faith. The term comes from Matthew 6:6, where Jesus says, “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen. Then your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.”

What is the purpose of a prayer closet in modern times over a traditional altar?

A prayer closet is not so much about the traditional aesthetic or sculptures, but the heart posture and cultivating growth with the Holy Father in any designated small space. The space is set apart from the everyday, allowing the individual to fully engage in prayer and deeply reflect on His holy words.

So, what are prayers biblically?

Prayer is more than asking for blessings; it is also for the saints or Christians all over the world to implement the will of God on earth. It is to be caught up in His Spirit, and our assignments, not the worldly news or status. Prayers start in faith that God's words don't return void (Isaiah 55:11), the Wi-Fi connection. A few examples:

  1. Jesus Formula of Prayer - Acknowledges God so, we know His place and our place “Our Father which art in Heaven…” Then, worships to open prayer with thanks and adoration, “Hollow be the name, worthy is your name,” and so on, continuing to intercede in Matthew 6:9-13.

  2. Unknown Tongues - 1 Corinthians 14:2, the Holy Spirit intercedes in us with heavenly language directly to God, not like unto man, differing from the gift of tongues and interpreting of tongues. Tongues in Greek is "to speak" or "to utter."

  3. Travailing/Groans - Romans 8:26, this is when the Holy Spirit takes over, like a birthing in the spiritual realm, where the Holy Spirit intercedes in the deepest, most inner parts of us in God's perfect will, making breakthroughs or strengthening our ability to walk into our assignment. Jude 1:20 states: "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost."

Hence, the kneeling floor pad allows the believer to fully engage and flow without restricting worship or travailing when the Holy Spirit takes over. As part of the fruit of the Spirit, it disciplines the flesh. This humble posture began with knowing the Holy Father is going to meet us where we are; simultaneously, the ground becomes holy, like in Exodus 3:5, where Moses takes off his shoes.
